Five innovative show managers are honored at the gala dinner which takes part in the weekend-long TSNN industry celebration. In addition to industry-wide recognition, SMOTY honorees received a $500 donation to the charity of their choice courtesy of The Expo Group.

“We started this award program over 12 years ago to bring attention to show managers in our industry who were really making a difference,” says Ray Pekowski, President and CEO of The Expo Group. “Over the years we have been able to donate over $65,000 to charity but more importantly we have shined the spotlight on people who might otherwise be toiling behind the scenes. SMOTY winners have been from all industries and included show managers just starting out with small shows to those in the twilight of their career.”
Criteria for the SMOTY awards include innovative practices, customer service, commitment to success and the ability to overcome obstacles. All nominees are judged by an independent panel of industry notables. This award is open to any show manager in the industry and there is no cost to nominate someone.

The Power of Events Award honors the raw power and influence of the marketplace created by a truly great tradeshow. Criteria for selection include serving a previously underserved market, truly changing the course of life for attendees and exhibitors (whether business or personal), and a relentless passion by the organizers for serving the chosen market.
The inaugural Power of Events Award was presented to Abilities Expos in 2013. Organized and operated by industry leaders and veterans Lew Shomer and David Korse, Abilities Expos has expanded to eight cities – including Singapore, and has transformed the lives of thousands of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors and healthcare professionals. Because of Lew and David’s passion and innovative thinking, their shows have brought those with special needs and their families from broken-hearted isolation to a place of acceptance, empowerment, and the ability to thrive in life.
